Install guide

Windows

  1. Download the installer from /download — it is about 990 KB; the rest arrives in the background after install.
  2. Run it. The publisher shown in the Windows prompt should read ShortCut Linking, Inc. — that is our legal name and it matches the signature on the file.
  3. First run asks you to point SCL at one folder of PDFs. Start with one folder, not the whole drive — you can add more any time.

Verifying the download

Every release publishes its SHA-256 checksum on the download page. To check on Windows:

certutil -hashfile scl-setup.exe SHA256

Compare the output to the published value.

During the beta (unsigned builds)

Until the code-signing certificate completes validation, beta builds are unsigned and Windows SmartScreen will warn you — as it should for any unsigned binary. Beta members receive the checksum with every build; verify it before running. The public download opens only with the signed build.

Antivirus false positives

A new, low-prevalence executable is sometimes flagged by reputation-based scanners simply for being new. If that happens: verify the checksum, and report it to us at /contact — we submit false positives to the vendors.

Uninstalling

Standard Windows uninstall. Your PDFs are untouched — SCL never moved or modified them. Generated data can be removed or kept; it remains readable locally either way.
